Stalin never withdrew from the lands occupied by Red Army during World War II. The only exception was Iranian province of Azerbaijan in 1946.
Iran in the Claws of the Bear:
The Failed Soviet Landgrab of 1946
By Hooshang Talé with Farhad Talé
Newport Beach, CA. March 30, 2007 – Iran in the Claws of the Bear,
published by iUniverse, Inc., the leading provider of publishing technology solutions for authors, deals with the extra ordinary events that led to such a unique occurrence.
The British–Soviet occupation of Iran in 1941 provided Joseph Stalin with a golden opportunity to fulfill an age-old dream nurtured by Russian rulers since Peter the Great, a dream of getting closer to the warm waters of the Persian Gulf. Where others had failed, Stalin was determined to succeed.
Occupied by the USSR and Great Britain during World War II, Iran was the most secure route for transferring military goods, supplies, foodstuff, and other war materiel to the Soviet Union. However, the USSR tried to take advantage of the situation and create its own puppet government in the Iranian province of Azerbaijan, leading to the Azerbaijan Crisis of 1946.
Iran in the Claws of the Bear: The Failed Soviet Landgrab of 1946 focuses on the struggle among three great Allied powers and the much weaker Iran. Authors Hooshang Talé and Farhad Talé emphasize Iran’s role in forcing the Soviets to end the occupation of Iranian land.
Hooshang Talé is a longtime researcher and author of many books about Iranian history, politics, and economics. He holds doctorate degrees in economics and political science from Karl Franz University of Austria. Prior to Iranian Revolution of 1979 he worked for the Iranian Plan Organization and served one term in the Iranian parliament. After the revolution, he devoted himself full time to his research and writings.
Farhad Talé, a researcher in California, cooperated with the lead author on this book.
